International Day of Archaeology 2021

On Saturday, October 16, 2021, the fifth International Day of Archaeology (MDA) took place. Visitors could meet the inhabitants of medieval Prague, Most, and the warriors of the Prague Hussite community. A part of the program was dedicated to the Bronze Age and experimental archaeology - the production of a replica of a prehistoric boat called a monoxyl, using only technologies from the Bronze Age. Both small and large visitors could try out an early medieval hand mill and bake a snake from dough made from their own ground flour, as well as create their own prehistoric or early medieval jewelry. The youngest visitors could build a small replica of a Slavic village and learn more about the building techniques and living conditions of our ancestors.

Exhibition Beauty as a Goal and Museum Night

The Most Museum Night 2021 was dedicated to sharpshooters and shooting art. Visitors to the museum night watched traditional medieval shooting at the bird, participated in shooting events, and got acquainted with today´s sharpshooting societies. Part of the museum night was the opening of the exhibition of historical painted targets - Beauty as a Goal. Painted targets, as we know them from the bourgeois environment of the 18th to the early 20th century, are associated with the phenomenon of shooting clubs and urban sharpshooting societies, which during this period formed part of the social life of most Central European towns and cities. Although today painted targets are considered an example of folk art, many of them were made by professional and often well-known regional artists. For example, festive targets were painted for the C. k. Prague privileged sharpshooting corps by Mikoláš Aleš and Josef Mánes. The exhibition mainly consists of painted targets from the collections of the R ...
