Due to the declaration of a state of emergency and in light of the measures taken, the operation of the museum library will be limited until further notice - the library will be closed to external researchers and research inquiries will be handled via email.

We would like to inform visitors that the library has a new email address as of January 1, 2020: knihovnaomgm.cz (the old email: knihovnamuzeum-most.cz will be discontinued!)

The Library of the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most would like to contribute to improving the mood of our supporters and visitors at least with one good piece of news during this difficult time. The Ministry of Culture has approved our request for funding for the project "Digitization of Historical Rare Collections II" from the VISK6 grant program.

The library has thus continued its project of digitizing selected books from its collection fund from last year, joining the national program MEMORIAE MUNDI SERIES BOHEMICA.
We informed you at the end of 2019 about the successful digitization of the "Most Gradual, known as the Unfortunate Hymnal" with the help of grant funding, and a detailed report on this successful endeavor will be a separate contribution in our museum periodical Pod Hněvínem, which we hope will be published as soon as the current situation calms down. The digitized document can be viewed on our website under the Library tab and further MANUSKRIPTORIUM.

This year, we have included three unique manuscripts in the project that have not yet been presented to either the professional or lay public through digitization or other forms of accessibility. Two of these selected documents must undergo restoration before their actual digitization. All three presented manuscripts are listed in the REPERTORIUM of manuscripts from the 17th and 18th centuries from museum collections in Bohemia, II/2 M-O. Prague: Charles University, 2007.

ARNOŠT from Pardubice (?): Mariale, Sermones (Conversations about the Life of the Virgin Mary) [end of the 14th century]

According to provenance records, it originally comes from the Cistercian monastery in Osek. The manuscript has a modern binding and was restored in 1981-82 in the studio of Marta and Ladislav Kolařík in Hodonín. Its content relates not only to the history of the region (Cistercian monastery in Osek, the history of religious orders in the royal town of Most) and our country, but also has a broader relevance to the ecclesiastical history of Europe.

KOLLNBERGER, Mathias: Historia Provinciae Bohemiae Ordinis Minorum [=1741]

A Latin-written history of the Minorite order in Bohemia, written by P. Mathias Kollnberger in 1741. An interesting feature is the loosely inserted text - a Latin list of abbesses of the Prague Poor Clares from 1257-1610. This manuscript requires restoration before digitization.

[MEISTERPRÜFUNGS Guild Book of the Tailors of Brüx]. Brüx 1576.

A German-written book of master examinations of the tailors' guild in Most with records from 1568-1828. It includes, among other things, patterns with descriptions and a list of products with information on the amount of fabric needed from 1677, as well as a chronological list of masters from 1568-1828. The year 1576 is found on the front covers. This unique manuscript relates to the history of craft guilds in the royal town of Most and is a valuable source for understanding the history of clothing in Bohemia during the 16th to 18th centuries and the activities of the Most tailors' guild. It also serves as evidence of contemporary clothing in the place of the manuscript's origin, namely in the royal town of Most. It is one of the most researched collection items in our library. The manuscript must also undergo restoration.

In the collection fund of the library, there are many rare and unique documents that are significant for regional, national, and European cultural heritage, and their digitization will ensure the safe preservation of the resulting data, their protection, and wide accessibility not only to the professional public. Therefore, we are striving to obtain funding for the realization of these intentions and would like to continue in the coming years. We only hope that the current situation will not have negative consequences and that the implementation of this year's project will proceed without complications, so that we can make more unique items from our museum library accessible to all researchers and interested parties.

The Library of the Regional Museum and Gallery would also like to present new interesting acquisitions to its collection:

Even in this difficult time, the museum library dares to present three new interesting acquisitions to its collection, to inform you at least in this way that we are still here and what is new with us.

Mrzenová, Daniela, Ostrá, Petra, Mikolášek, Karel, ŠVESTKOVÁ DRÁHA. Náchod, TopLife Czech a.s., 2019

The book was published on the occasion of the resumption of regular transport on the railway line Litoměřice – Most and is dedicated to one of the most modern and touristically attractive regional lines in the Ústí nad Labem Region – the Plum Railway. It got its name during the First Republic due to the plum orchards and avenues along the line.

The authors present both the troubled fate and history of the railway, including its operation during various periods of state development, as well as in another part, technical data and detailed descriptions of the vehicles included in its operation. Subsequently, the book thoroughly introduces readers to the individual stops and tips for possible interesting places to visit.

Everything is supplemented with rich photographic attachments. The publication is aimed at the general public and serves as a pleasant means of promoting our often touristically overlooked region.

Pohunek, Jan, A CENTURY OF TRAMPING. Prague, National Museum, 2018

A very successful catalog of the exhibition maps the history of tramping in our territory. This popular topic is processed by our leading expert Jan Pohunek, who is also known for his series on "mysterious illuminations" and regularly contributes satirical remarks and glosses on his blogs about events and topics both in our country and worldwide.

The publication is released on the occasion of the centenary of tramping, as the year 1918 is generally often considered the year of the emergence of tramping in our country. The author divides the book into several parts – the introduction is dedicated to history, where he maps individual periods in relation to the political situation and social changes and their influence on the tramping movement. Following are separate sections dedicated to, for example, tramping music, theater, art and crafts, sports, personalities, or related movements. The final part of the publication addresses a particularly attractive topic for readers, namely tramping mythology and the so-called "ghost stories" passed down among tramps.

The author himself has dedicated a separate work to the so-called "tramping horror stories." All texts are processed bilingually – in Czech and English – and are complemented by rich visual attachments – period and current black and white and color photographs, drawings, etc. The book will be appreciated especially by all tramping enthusiasts, both current and nostalgic, but will surely please other readers as well.

Jakubec, Pavel, Pažout, Jaroslav, THE CREATION OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND THE PROVINCE OF DEUTSCHBÖHMEN. Litoměřice, State Regional Archive in Litoměřice, 2019

The publication provides a comprehensive view of the issue of the creation of the province of Deutschböhmen (German Bohemia) as a result of the disintegration of Austria-Hungary in the autumn of 1918.

The book consists of five parts and contains studies dedicated to the general context of the short existence of this province, its administrative-political structure, and the personalities associated with it. One block is dedicated to regional surveys, and the later reflections on the existence and demise of the province and the German community in the Czech lands are also not overlooked. An objective and readable summary in the introduction and conclusion serves to clearly map the given issue.

The texts are supplemented with several visual attachments of posters, official documents, period photographs, some of which are truly unique, etc., included in the final part.

The publication is intended more for the professional public and will certainly be a valuable contribution for researchers. It will significantly enrich the professional fund of our library and is particularly valuable for our museum due to its connection to the successful exhibition "Mostecko 1918; The Creation of Czechoslovakia and the Province of Deutschböhmen," which was on display here from October 18, 2018, to March 31, 2019.

HANUS, Radek. Atlas of Inclusions in Czech Garnet and Its Imitations. Prague: Powerprint, 2019

The book follows an earlier title "Czech Garnet: History, Geology, Mineralogy, Gemology, and Jewelry," by Hanus, R. and colleagues, published by Granit in 2013. The author describes the simplest and most basic methods of observing inclusions in gemstones, especially in Czech garnets. More than 300 photographs of inclusions found in Czech garnets from three significant contemporary and historical production areas in the Czech Republic are presented. The Atlas of Inclusions can serve as a working tool for identifying Czech garnets in jewelry and other artistic objects. The book is primarily intended for gemologists, mineralogists, museum workers, restorers, goldsmiths, jewelers, and antique dealers dealing with the issue of Czech garnets in jewelry.

ŠINDELÁŘ, Radek, ŠINDELÁŘ, Jakub. Rapiers and Epees from Czech Collections of the 16th – 18th Century. Milevsko: Milevské Museum, 2018

A very successful publication by the father and son Šindelář aims to capture a somewhat overlooked but all the more interesting exceptional type of cold weapons – rapiers and their contemporary varieties – epees. In their work, they utilized knowledge and collaboration with a number of experts and institutions. Both authors are also members of historical fencing groups, so in addition to the description and depiction of the weapons, detailed descriptions of fencing techniques and schools are provided, supplemented with many period illustrations. The publication is also certainly attractive due to numerous contemporary stories from military and civilian environments or the use of rapiers and epees in crimes. The publication is supplemented with an extensive visual attachment.

SEMOTANOVÁ, Eva. Narrated Landscapes. Prague: Historical Institute, 2018

The book by a leading worker of the Historical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague deals with the image of the historical landscape, mediated by narratives - narrative sources. The publication highlights the possibilities of using these sources in historical geography. It contains excerpts from several dozen interesting texts, mainly concerning the historical landscapes of Bohemia from the 10th to the early 20th century. These sources testify to the level of contemporary geographical knowledge, the relationship of narrators to individual countries and regions. The authors of the texts sought to convey historical and geographical knowledge not only about the Czech lands and to declare admiration, respect, and love for the homeland. The presented texts testify to the spiritual relationship of man to nature, the geographical environment, and the homeland.

Manoucherh, Moshtagh Khorasani: Heritage of Steel.

A collection of oriental and Asian weapons and armor in the Znojmo Museum. South Moravian Museum in Znojmo, contributory organization, Znojmo, 2018. The author is a university educator based in Germany, who is also a leading expert on historical weapons and armor with an emphasis on Persia and the founder of a historical fencing and traditional Persian martial arts interest group that reconstructs the historical combat techniques of Persian warriors. The publication is interesting not only for the professional public but also attracts lay readers with its attractive processing and numerous photographic and visual attachments. It was rightly nominated for the XVII. Annual National Museum Competition Gloria musealis 2018 in the category of Museum Publication of the Year 2018.

Lukas J., Píša P., Wögerbauer M.: Holy Images.

Prague devotional graphics of the 18th and 19th centuries. Museum of the Capital City of Prague, Prague, 2017. The publication introduces readers to the theme of holy images as a specific source of knowledge about religious life in Bohemia and as objects of folk piety in various forms and transformations during the 18th and 19th centuries. The book is divided into four parts – studies that address separate topics and bring closer miraculous statues and images venerated in individual Prague churches and pilgrimage chapels in Baroque Prague. It details their appearance and introduces the history, issues of production and printing, censorship, and concludes with a list of Prague printers and engravers and other craftsmen and merchants who influenced the production or trade of holy images.

Holečková, Z., Holna, J.: Czech and Czechoslovak Emergency Paper Currency (1914-1945)

From the collection of the National Museum. National Museum, Prague, 2015. The numismatic department of the National Museum has sought to present a relatively representative collection of emergency currency found in its collections through this publication. However, the publication is not just a list of numismatic material, but it also summarizes and describes the issue of emergency currency in a broader historical and monetary-historical context. It is an attractive topic not only for numismatists and collectors but also for the wider public, among other things, due to the appeal of the materials used (often involving precious metals of coins and medals) and their unconventional appearance. The second part of the publication is dedicated to a detailed catalog arranged alphabetically by locality and supplemented with clear photographic attachments. The book is certainly a significant contribution for researchers in the fields of numismatics and notaphily, but its attractive processing may also be interesting for broadening the horizons of the lay public.
