Production of a Prehistoric Canoe

DetailProduction of a Prehistoric Canoe

8.9.2022

As part of the experimental archaeology event, the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most is calling for volunteers from the public and students. The task will be to create a replica of a prehistoric canoe known as a monoxyl, using only technologies from the Bronze Age. Volunteers participating in this experiment will learn about the techniques of making prehistoric canoes and new archaeological findings regarding river and maritime navigation during the Bronze Age in Central, Northern, and Western Europe. On-site, volunteers will be informed about safety principles while working. We anticipate that after completion, the produced canoe will be ceremoniously launched and tested on Lake Most during one of the following spring weekends.
