On Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 5 PM, the opening of a new exhibition Vestonia - Renaissance Sappho and Her Time will take place at the building of the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most, p. o. Part of the opening will include a recitation of poems by Elizabeth Weston – Vestonia, directed by the City Theatre in Most.
The exhibition will commemorate the life and times of Elizabeth Weston – Vestonia, the stepdaughter of the alchemist Edward Kelley and our most significant Renaissance poetess. You will learn more about her relationship with her stepfather Edward Kelley and our city of Most. The exhibition also attempts to debunk several myths associated with the figures of Edward Kelley
and Vestonia. A part of the exhibition is dedicated to Vestonia's supporter - Jiří Barthold from Breitenberk, known as Pontanus, who was a significant figure of Rudolfine Bohemia, a Catholic dignitary, and an outstanding humanist writer. Another notable native of Most, the Jesuit and educator Jakub Spanmüller Pontanus, is also presented.
Visitors will also briefly familiarize themselves with Renaissance culture in the Most region, with examples of Renaissance applied arts and everyday objects that come from the collections of the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most and other institutions as well as private individuals.
The exhibition and guided tour will be part of this year's Edward Kelley Day in Most and the autumn lecture series.
