PANORAMA OF OLD MOSTECKO

The Regional Museum and Gallery in Most (OMGM) has been implementing an extensive project called "Panorama of Old Mostecko" from 2020 until the end of 2022. The financial resources (from European sources) are drawn through the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, where the project is registered. Its main purpose is to make image exhibits from the OMGM collection – primarily photographs and negatives – accessible through virtual reality, with the target group within the project being students of primary and secondary schools.

The project’s author team, in agreement with the management of OMGM, decided to organize a photographic exhibition beyond the scope of the entire project, which would present the most interesting newly digitized historical photographs of Most, Mostecko, and the world around 1900. Thousands of photographs in the form of positives and negatives were digitized as part of the project, primarily from the years 1860 to 1945, all of which were provided with detailed descriptions.

Among the oldest are stereoscopic images showing the world around 1900. From pairs of images taken with a special camera to create a three-dimensional viewing effect when observed with both eyes, cutouts were made that closely detail contemporary life. Hundreds of stereoscopic colored slides were originally part of the Litvínov mechanical Panorama.

Historical photographs of Mostecko, capturing primarily the vanished landscape and villages, were created over several decades, and a number of old Mostecko studios and photographers were behind their creation, the most famous being Otto Kittel, Alfred Hoffmann, Carl Pietzneer, Josef Klaus, Heinrich Felber, Anton Löppen, and B. Stolz. Many of them collaborated with the then City Museum, thus enriching its collection. Visitors to the exhibition can look forward to a diverse period theme. Regional events were recorded in entire series – the Kuřavková disaster in Most (1895), the construction of the dam in Janov (1911-1914), the construction of the power plant in Ervěnice (1923-1926), and life in Hory Svaté Kateřiny and its surroundings (1908-1918).

Thus, the exhibition makes available to the public a selection from the collection of negatives, positives, and old photographs documenting the development of the region and a view of the world around 1900 after more than a hundred years.

The exhibition will run from November 11, 2022, to March 31, 2023. The opening will take place on November 10, 2022, at 5 PM.
