Exhibit of the Month 5 / 2020
Treasure of Silver Groschen from Koporeč
The coins were found during construction work in the center of the village of Koporeč (2018). The treasure contains a total of 251 groschen – of which 123 are Czech and 128 are Meissen. It was buried in a leather or cloth pouch, most likely in 1431 or shortly thereafter, probably in connection with troop movements in the area.
At that time, it was possible to purchase, for example:
1-2 horses,
5-8 cows,
4000-5000 bricks
or 8-10 barrels of beer
The find was handed over to the museum in accordance with the law by the finders themselves – Mr. Koudelka and father and son Plachta, to whom we owe our thanks.
