Press release from May 21, 2018 (Ústí Region)
The traveling exhibition will visit a symbolic eighteen locations in the region. It has been fully prepared by a team from the Museum of the City of Ústí nad Labem with the help of colleagues from other museums in the region. “The exhibition took nearly three months to create. About seven people worked on it in our museum alone, and dozens of fellow historians helped us find materials from their districts. We tried to collectively select only the most interesting aspects of our region that would best illustrate the time when the First Republic was being established in our area. Everything unfolded quite differently in Prague and differently here, where the majority of the population was still German-speaking in the border areas,” described the creation of the exhibition on thirty portable panels by the director of the Ústí museum, Václav Houfek. Until June 3, you can find the exhibition at the main train station in Ústí nad Labem and then in the atrium of Masaryk Hospital.
The calendar of events involved in the celebrations of this significant anniversary already includes dozens of places that residents can visit. “The list of events is indeed very long. Whether it’s those that are successfully held every year, such as the commemoration of the Rumburkská Uprising, which will take place in the coming days, or those that are held specifically on this occasion. The North Bohemian Philharmonic in Teplice is celebrating an incredible 180 years this November,” explained the calendar of celebrations by the governor of the Ústí Region, Oldřich Bubeníček.
At eighteen events this year, you can also find a thematic photo booth. “When we were preparing the celebrations, we tried to ensure that everyone could find something for themselves in the remembrance. From the photo booth, you will take home a photograph in historical costumes, and during the October celebrations, we will take you back in time so you can enjoy dishes in a period café, watch sports matches in original jerseys, and welcome President Masaryk on horseback,” added the spokesperson for the region, Lucie Dosedělová.
