CELEBRATION OF SPORTS AND RECORDSAT THE REGIONAL MUSEUM AND GALLERY IN MOST

Not only in Mostecko, we are looking forward to a summer filled with sports and cheering. At the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most (hereafter OMGM), we will celebrate sports this summer together with the entire Ústí Region and the world, and we have several activities prepared for the public.

Stations for young Olympians

July 26 – August 11, 2024

Reception

During the Olympic Festival at Lake Most, OMGM will be one of the stations for a game for children, which will take place in the festival area and will primarily focus on trying out various sports. Three locations from the Most region, besides Lake Most, have been newly included as a bonus, and OMGM is one of them. At our reception, visitors will learn the task assignment, and upon completion, they will receive a confirmation on their game card.

(During the Olympic Festival from July 26, 2024 – August 11, 2024, the opening hours will be Monday - Sunday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM.)

Olympians from Mostecko

June 1 – September 29, 2024

Foyer at the reception

Visitors will be able to view two Olympic torches in the OMGM foyer, which were used to open the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2020). The exhibition also includes profiles of successful athletes from Mostecko who participated in the Olympic Games.

Sports in Mostecko / Small exhibition about big things

June 1 – September 29, 2024

2nd floor

Come and see what sports treasures are in our collections, family archives, and in the possession of sports clubs. We have prepared a small exhibition recalling the beginnings of organized sports in our region, sports during the era of communist Czechoslovakia, and some well-known as well as forgotten athletes from Mostecko.

We will also present several sports that are exceptional in our environment and have a long-standing tradition here. Specifically, a section of the purely Czech sport of national handball, one of only two archery clubs in the region, or a discipline without which no physical education club could do without a hundred years ago – fencing. You will also get to know the pioneers of skateboarding and snowboarding in Litvínov, who made their own "boards" at home more than forty years ago.

We do not aspire to provide an exhaustive presentation of all sports activities in Mostecko. We have composed a mosaic from fragments of the region's sports life that will awaken nostalgic memories in us and reveal new facts from the sports life of Most and its surroundings.

Records from the Animal World

June 1 – September 29, 2024

Ante-room of the Geology exhibition of Northwest Bohemia

Come and see representatives of the invertebrate kingdom from Mostecko, who can boast various records. You will see, for example, the largest and smallest Czech beetle, the largest strongman in the world, or our most poisonous insect. Bird record holders will also join them.

Records in the Museum or The Great Summer Adventure

July 1 – September 1, 2024

The highest, the farthest, the fastest. But also the oldest, the most valuable, the most poisonous, the smallest, the rarest. Records are not only in the world of sports. Come with us to discover the records hidden in the Most museum through an exciting game in the museum area.

Public Challenge

We would like to invite the residents of Mostecko and the surrounding area, who have items or photographs related to sports from their great-grandparents, grandparents, or from their childhood, and no longer want them at home, to bring them to OMGM so that we can enrich our collections with further examples of local sports activities.
