Skull of the European Beaver

The European Beaver (Castor fiber) is one of the largest rodents in the world. In the Czech lands, it was long extinct, and the current population comes from reintroductions.

Currently, beavers can also be found in northwestern Bohemia, and one was observed in the Bíliná River in the Most region. The displayed skull comes from an old female that died in the Podkrušnohorský Zoo in Chomutov.
