15.10.2022
On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the sixth International Day of Archaeology (MDA) will take place at the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most. The main theme of this year's program will be trade across the Ore Mountains during prehistoric and medieval times. This year, a large part of the program is dedicated to regional archaeology.
Visitors will meet Celtic traders, a Roman merchant and his Germanic entourage, or visit merchant shops from the late Middle Ages. This year, they will also enjoy a period fashion show.
The public will be officially introduced for the first time to an exceptional find of a bronze sword with a solid cast handle, which was made approximately 3300 years ago - during the Bronze Age. The sword comes from the Ore Mountains and was acquired by the OMGM collection thanks to an honest finder who properly handed it over.
Both small and large visitors can look forward to a number of interesting activities. Attendees will be able to use a Celtic quern and bake a real bread flatbread from the flour they grind themselves. They can try starting a fire using a replica of a medieval fire-starting kit or become a little archaeologist for a moment. While making Slavic jewelry, they will learn more about Slavic gods, mythology, and magic. The youngest will try their hand at the skills of prehistoric hunters by creating cave paintings or clay figures. Young visitors will also experience prehistoric barter trade. And for participating in individual activities, they will ultimately receive a sweet reward.
