11.5.2017 - 30.9.2017
We cordially invite you to the exhibition MATER PATRIAE - SOCRUS EUROPAE.
(May 13, 1717/May 13, 2017)
On May 13, 300 years will have passed since the birth of the Czech and Hungarian queen Maria Theresa. Her reign was a key moment in the birth of modern society in Central Europe. The tumultuous beginning of her reign is also associated with the present form of the Czech lands. Her reign was not only a period of reforms and the time of the establishment of modern education, justice, monetary reforms, or the creation of the first modern cadastre. Maria Theresa was also behind the development of many crafts in the Ore Mountains, especially lace-making, which was meant to replace the declining ore mining in the livelihoods of the inhabitants. Maria Theresa was already called Mother during her lifetime, but also the Mother-in-law of Europe due to her marriage policies.
Exhibition extended until 30. 9. 2017.
