Manuscript of the regulations for the dragoon regiments of the Saxon Electorate from 1766

Unique manuscript of the German-written regulations for the training and reports of the cavalry dragoon regiments of the Saxon Electorate from 1766 from the collection fund of the museum library.

As the exhibit of the month of November, we would like to present to you a very interesting and truly unique manuscript from our collections. This is a German-written collection of regulations for the training of dragoon cavalry regiments of the Saxon Electorate from 1766 and reports on the training of dragoon regiments from 1752 to 1769. The first part contains an excerpt from the 2nd book of daily regulations of the Saxon Elector for the training of the regiment, concluded with the explicit dating and signature “Sig. Dressden, am 1sten. Februarii 1766, Hans Heinrich von Minckwitz, Obrist Liutenant und Exercitien Meister.” In the next part, we find an index of regulations under the title “Register Uber vorstehendenExtract des Exeercice tz Pferde und zu Fuss.” Furthermore, there is a list of reports on training under the title “Verzeichniss Derjenigen Ordres so bis hierher durch Avertissements bekannt gemacht worden sind, und noch dato in ihren Werth und Befolgung bleiben auch zum Theil im gedruckten Reglement nachgeholet sind.” The text is written by a single scribe in brown-black ink, military commands are in calligraphic red, and headings are underlined with a red double line. The binding of the book is original, cardboard, covered with brown marbled leather. The spine with two bands is highlighted with embossed double lines. The edges are red-sprayed. The manuscript entered the museum collections by purchase on April 4, 1889, from Jakob Felgenhauer from Most.
