Exhibit of the Month 9 / 2018
In September, we would like to introduce to you an item from the OMM collections, the “Key Box – Key Holder,” which dates back to the 19th century.
The cabinet was made at the end of the 19th century in the spirit of historicism and using metal and wooden parts. It is an oak single-door and lockable cabinet that has a total of 20 hooks for keys on the inner and back side of the door. The dominant element of the key holder is a metal composition complemented by a wooden body and significantly rounded corners.
The surface of the metal doors is decorated with a relief. It depicts a female figure holding a key in one hand and a box in the other.
The background of the relief is adorned with floral motifs – flowers of tulips and lilies, acanthus, volute, and heraldic motifs. At the top, a half-figure of a cherub holding festoons in its hands is depicted.
