HERBARIUM OF ULRIKA VON LEVETZOW

The herbarium, also a diary or memorial, comes from the estate of Baroness Ulrika von Levetzow (1804-1899). It consists of 79 individual sheets measuring 11 x 19 cm, dated between 1833-1899. The individual herbarium items contain not only collections made by Ulrika during her travels across Europe and around Třebívlice, but also, for example, a bird feather or a lock of hair.

The herbarium is stored in a paper case shaped like a book. A separate sheet is included, from which we learn that the herbarium was sold after Ulrika's death by her nephew Adalbert von Rauch for 50 florins and subsequently purchased and saved from further "desecration" by Ulrika von Levetzow's beloved great-niece Louisa von Rauch (the last owner of the castle in Pnětluky, who died in 1943).

The herbarium was restored in the studio of Jana Náprstková in Prague, and part of it was exhibited in the permanent exhibition titled “Baroness Ulrika von Levetzow (1804-1899)” from 1998 to 2019.
