17.1.2022 - 30.4.2022
Hans Kudlich was a participant in the revolutionary events of 1848-49, a member of the Austrian Imperial Diet, which convened in Vienna and Kroměříž, and primarily the proposer of the law abolishing serfdom, which is why he is rightly considered the liberator of the peasant people from serfdom. Due to his revolutionary activities, he was sentenced to death in the Austrian Empire, as well as in neighboring Germany, and therefore had to emigrate to the USA via Switzerland, where he worked as a doctor with a large family around him.
For his efforts to abolish serfdom, the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Bohemia and not only him began to erect monuments in memory of his deeds. In addition, tourist lookout towers were named after him. Many of the monuments and lookouts no longer stand today, which is why this exhibition also aims to commemorate his personality.
The exhibition is Czech-German and consists of 25 panels. To date, the exhibition has been presented in dozens of places in the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 5 PM and will last until April 30.
The exhibition was prepared by the Regional Museum in Chomutov in cooperation with the Association of Friends of Hans Kudlich e. V.
