Gnosticism as the Search for Truth and God in Late Antiquity.

Egyptian Alexandria was a melting pot of antiquity. A place where Hellenistic mysteries met Egyptian mysticism. Jewish Talmudic tradition with classical Greek philosophy, or late Roman Platonism with the emerging Christianity. It was precisely this Egyptian melting pot from which Gnosticism was cast. An attempt to connect Christianity with the Hellenistic philosophical tradition, spiced with Jewish apocalypticism, Ptolemaic hermeticism, and late antique mysteries.
