Gladiators in the Light of Contemporary Science - a lecture where you can experience a day in the body of a visitor to a Roman amphitheater. You will see how gladiatorial games actually differed from what you know from movies and television. You will learn more about gladiators, their history, social status, their categories and types. You will find out how FAMILIA GLADIATORIA differed from today's sports club or why entry to the amphitheater was only allowed in "formal attire." The lecture will show you how modern archaeology, history, and classical philology can reconstruct the image of this ancient, yet still vibrant phenomenon.
The lecture will take place on February 23, 2023, at 5 PM in the meeting room on the first floor of the museum building, admission 20 CZK.
