The geological part of the natural science exhibition at the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most presents samples of minerals and fossils from the Most region and its wider surroundings. The basis of the mineralogical section is a collection of minerals found during the extraction of brown coal. These are complemented by samples of minerals from volcanic complexes of Northwest Bohemia and the crystalline rocks of the eastern part of the Ore Mountains. The predominant part of the exhibition consists of paleontological exhibits arranged according to individual geological epochs preserved in our region. In the showcases, you can also see several extraordinary fossils that have not been found anywhere else on the entire planet. The new geological exhibition also includes two panoramas. One represents typical marine inhabitants from the Cretaceous period, and the other the most abundant animals of the Ice Age. The displayed minerals and fossils are complemented by photographs and reproductions of reconstructions of prehistoric environments and models of prehistoric animals.
The exhibition features 170 samples of minerals and rocks, 372 fossils, 11 models of animals, 8 replicas of fossils, 13 reproductions of paleontological reconstructions, and 3 boards with 12 reproductions of photographs of minerals. Of the total number of 574 exhibited items, 95% are exhibited for the very first time. The design of the new exhibition, with the exception of construction and printing work, was realized by the museum staff.
