First Model Exhibition of the North Bohemian Aviation Archive in Most
Top-quality models of airplanes, ships, cars, or military equipment. More than interesting scenes in the form of dioramas, but also kits completed just for fun. All this will be offered at the First Model Exhibition organized by the North Bohemian Aviation Archive in Most. In collaboration with the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most, the association has prepared this event for the weekend of September 5-6 in the main building of the museum.
“About fifteen modelers from the Most and Kadaň regions will exhibit their models, and in some cases, I dare say, artistic works,” says the curator of the exhibition and vice-chairman of the North Bohemian Aviation Archive in Most, Edvard D. Beneš.
In addition to the exhibited models, the event will offer visitors demonstrations of model building, experienced modelers who will be present to advise or answer questions. Workshops will also be prepared, where those interested in plastic modeling will learn a lot of interesting facts. The company Eduard Model Accessories, a significant Czech manufacturer of plastic models and modeling accessories, will also present its novelties.
The exhibition will be opened on Saturday, September 5, at 10 a.m. It will continue on Sunday, September 6. On Saturday, visitors can look forward to demonstrations or workshops.
“For us, the exhibition is another step in the mutual cooperation between the museum and our association,” adds the chairman of the North Bohemian Aviation Archive in Most, Karel Otto Novák, stating that both entities would prepare more events in the future.
North Bohemian Aviation Archive in Most
It is an association that aims to acquire and preserve knowledge not only about the aviation history of the region but also about its modern history in general. It was founded on December 17, 1991. During its existence, it has organized four exhibitions and several discussions in Litvínov, Most, or Žatec. Members of the North Bohemian Aviation Archive actively engage in so-called aviation archaeology, where they recover the wreckage of shot-down or crashed aircraft from World War II, and they are often invited by their colleagues from other regions of the Czech Republic to assist in searching for crash sites. They collaborate with various institutions engaged in the study and research of military and historical topics, with prominent Czech historians, and renowned authors of non-fiction literature.
Members of the North Bohemian Aviation Archive in Most have significantly contributed to the establishment of several memorials to American pilots who died during military operations on the territory of northern Bohemia.
In cooperation with the Statutory City of Most, they prepared three teaching aids for schools in Most about the history of World War II. Since 2014, the association has been responsible for the operation of the exhibition at the International Memorial to the Victims of World War II in Most, which those interested in military and war history can find in the building of the former city crematorium at the old Most cemetery. The museum season runs here from early May to the end of October. In November, the memorial regularly becomes the venue for the celebrations of Veterans Day.
