Return to Old Most – The Best from the Art Collection
11. 6. – 5. 1. 2022
Opening on 10. 6. 2021 from 5 PM / Regional Museum and Gallery in Most / Čsl. armády 1360/35, Most
The Regional Museum and Gallery in Most presents a selection of the most valuable pieces from the art collection. The already concluded exhibition The Story of Old Most, which was created as part of a significant cross-border project of the Ústí Region titled Art of the Late Middle Ages, unfortunately could not be made accessible to visitors due to coronavirus measures. However, a large part of the exhibits was left in the gallery spaces and supplemented with recently restored unique pieces from the collections of OMGM and the Statutory City of Most. In addition to paintings and sculptures closely connected to the medieval and modern history of Most, there will also be rare Madonnas and Pieties from Litvínov, Lužice, Fláje, and Bedřichov Světec on display.
Among the most valuable exhibited works is undoubtedly the Votive Panel depicting the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from 1538 by the famous master IW, a gilded reliquary from the 14th century, and parts of three late Gothic altars (St. John the Baptist, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Alexius) originating from the dean's church in Most. The vanished village of Fláje will be commemorated by three sculptures from the 15th – 16th centuries that once adorned the local church. A pair of large-format paintings recalling the legends of the rescue of the city of Most from the Hussite siege in 1421 will undoubtedly attract great attention. They were last exhibited together in the Most museum 100 years ago.
Fans of the more recent history of Most will also find something of interest, as painter Heinrich Loos will symbolically guide visitors through the streets of Old Most around the year 1870.
It is necessary to maintain a stable climate in the exhibition spaces, therefore the exhibition will be accessible to individuals or small groups of a maximum of 10 people.
The curator of the exhibition is Michal Soukup
