The exhibition will last from July 26 to October 13, 2019 in the underground exhibition spaces of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Most, Kostelní Street.
The exhibition Children on the Apple Tree presents paintings and installations by Petra Švecová, which arise from the search and creation of her own microcosm, while also responding to the space and the story of the Dean's Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Most. It is a play with symbols, which also addresses the image as such – working with the space between individual elements and the memory of the canvas.
Children on the Apple Tree
An unknown gate in memory,
when the last corner of the earth that remains to be discovered,
is that which was at the beginning;
at the source of the longest river
the voice of a hidden waterfall
and children on the apple tree,
unknown, because we do not seek them,
but only barely heard in the silence
amidst the double sea wave.”
T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets
Color, light, shapes. As if we had stored symbols somewhere in memory, through which we perceive the world - and although we cover them with something new, they still return. They rise to the surface, pure and trimmed to the essence. As if everything had a natural need to return to a state that is correct. Given by essence. Archetypes and symbols, personal mythology, patterns stored in our subconscious, which disappear and reappear. Maps of our own territory. The same outlines of landscapes, everyday objects, flowers.
Petra Švecová (*1975), a graduate of the Prague Academy of Fine Arts (2012 – 2018, prof. Milan Knížák, prof. Vladimír Kokolia and doc. Vladimír Skrepl) focuses primarily on painting in her work, while also working with photography and site-specific installations.
