Just as the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was moved 841 meters away in Most, a significant part of the Swedish city of Kiruna is also being moved three kilometers away, including the church and the center of social life of the local community. The film brings the viewer closer to the current events in the eighteen-thousand-strong northernmost city of Sweden - Kiruna, which will soon cease to exist in its current form. Just as Most in Northern Bohemia was condemned to destruction years ago, so too will northern Swedish Kiruna give way to mining. Due to subsidence on the surface, the Kiruna mines began to threaten the city that stands on it. Residents were able to express their opinions on the future of the city in a referendum. Due to the existential dependence of the population on work in the mine, they decided to continue mining and relocate the entire city of Kiruna. This created a global sensation that brought the small sleepy town into the spotlight of the world media.
The film is directed by young filmmaker Greta Stocklassa, who lived in Northern Europe from the age of twelve until she was accepted into university. The film premiered at the most prestigious documentary film festival Visions du Reél in Switzerland and has since been shown at dozens of festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad. The film will have its distribution premiere in Most. After the screening, there will be a debate with the director and experts on architecture and urbanism. There will also be light refreshments waiting for you.
