"CHURCH MUSICIANS AND REPERTOIRE IN THE NORTHWESTERN PODKRUŠNOHOŘÍ DURING THE BAROQUE PERIOD
On February 5, 2019, at 5 PM at the Regional Museum in Most, Čsl. armády 1360.
Presented by musicologist Bc. Milan Černý.
The exploration of the church music culture developed during the 17th and 18th centuries in the area of northwestern Podkrušnohoří continues to provide a number of surprising and inspiring insights. The knowledge acquired so far offers a sufficient amount of information to credibly illustrate the remarkable, gradually revealed sophistication of several generations of local musicians, who achieved this through their collective efforts during the monumental, artistically intense Baroque era.
From the sources discovered so far, it appears that from the second half of the 17th century and into the following century, advanced church ensembles operated in various places in this region, equipped with quality material support including instruments, and not least, a diverse musical repertoire with appropriate interpretative demands. This resulted in a refined, fully-fledged cultural past, the like of which has never been manifested in such a scope in subsequent history, and which has yet to receive the recognition it rightfully deserves.
