Bidet (portable toilet)

DetailBidet (portable toilet)

Exhibit of the Month 12 / 2020

The exhibit of December 2020 is a portable toilet - BIDET (French pony). This exhibit is probably from the turn of the 18th – 19th century. It is made of coniferous segments, with a cherry veneer surface, and solid cherry legs. The hygienic bowl was made of ceramic or tin. Unfortunately, the bowl has not survived.

At the turn of the 19th - 20th century, the bidet moved from the bedroom to the bathroom.

Restored in 2020 by furniture conservator OMGM Miroslav Vrba.
