PRESS RELEASE
Celebrations of the 150th Anniversary of Railways in the Most and Chomutov Regions.
This year, our region will commemorate the significant anniversary of 150 years since the arrival of the first train in Most and Chomutov. The establishment of the railway network significantly supported the development of mining and industry under the Ore Mountains. This was associated with significant economic, social, and landscape changes in the region. At its time, railway transport was the most efficient and widely used means of transport. Railways are a phenomenon that still influences us today and maintains its significant position in both passenger and freight transport in certain respects.
The Regional Museum and Gallery in Most, p. o., is preparing, in cooperation with the Regional Museum in Chomutov, p. o., the National Technical Museum, and many other entities, a grand celebration that will culminate on October 3 and 4, 2020. During this October weekend, special historical trains will be operated on the Most – Chomutov line. Railway vehicles and equipment will be installed at both stations, and a comprehensive accompanying program will be prepared.
Throughout the year, events will be organized that will focus on the history of railways in the region and beyond. There will be lectures, guided family train trips along interesting routes in the region, walks along abandoned tracks, discussions with witnesses, a museum exhibition in the museum's premises, museum night, and other accompanying events, which you will be informed about in due time. The team of authors is also working on a publication that will focus on the history of railways in the region.
On Thursday, January 30, an introductory lecture will take place at 5 PM at the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most, which will kick off the celebrations of this significant anniversary. The speaker Jan Setvák will introduce you to the entire issue of the development of railways in the Most and Chomutov regions. Not only railway history enthusiasts have something to look forward to.
