The botanical subcollection of the Regional Museum in Most consists of nearly 4000 herbarium specimens of vascular plants, which mainly originate from northwestern Bohemia, especially from the Most region and its surroundings.
The majority of the subcollection consists of herbarium records from the years 1950–1960 (collector B. Hulán) and from 1981–1992 (collector J. Sládek), with a smaller portion from the second half of the 19th century (collections by A. Roth and A. Nowak). These older herbarium specimens come from both northwestern Bohemia and other areas of Europe (mainly the Alps). The most valuable are the records of halophytic and steppe plants in northwestern Bohemia by J. Sládek and some specimens from extinct locations of rarer species from the Litvínov area by B. Hulán. Currently, the herbarium is being significantly expanded with new collections from the northwestern Bohemia region.
The subcollection does not contain archival materials or type specimens significant from a botanical taxonomy perspective. However, it is supplemented by other natural items related to forest trees (historical dendrochronological cores, several records of wood-decaying fungi and pest damage, etc.). Their significance in the collection is only marginal.
Currently, a complete inventory of the herbarium is underway, transferring from mass records (currently, the subcollection includes 159 record numbers) and sorting them according to a new taxonomic system.
