The archaeological subcollection was sorted from the main fund of the museum during the 1920s. It was collectively published by Helmut Preidel, one of the most significant North Bohemian archaeologists of the 20th century, in 1934 (Die urgeschichtlichen Funde und Denkmäler des politischen Bezirkes Brüx). The subcollection consists of two main parts – the first is the collection of the City Museum in Most (since 1888) and the second is the collection of the Czech Podkrušnohorské Museum in Most (1928-1938), which was primarily established thanks to the efforts of the Most teacher and archaeologist Václav Kučera. After 1980, archaeological finds obtained in the Most region from the research of the former branch of the Archaeological Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences were also transferred to the museum – these are currently being processed.

The first archaeological finds (from Zahražany) were donated to the museum by its founder Karl von Pohnert – in the old inventory, these are numbers 1 to 19. Later, the museum conducted its own excavations or acquired items through donations. The bulk of the collection consists of finds from the area of the Most district, primarily from the basin area. The Ore Mountains and the Czech Central Highlands are minimally represented in the subcollection.

A modern catalog of the subcollection is a task for the coming years.
